The Best Dog Friendly Restaurants & Pubs near Holywell Bay in Cornwall

It’s a well known fact that we simply love dogs at Trevornick and alongside our many dog-friendly places to stay, we have miles of coast path to explore and an all-year round dog friendly beach on our doorstep making us a pretty paw-some choice with pups and their owners. Whether you spend your days gently ambling the shoreline playing a game of ball or you set off for an energetic hike, there’s no better feeling than grabbing a post-walk refreshment and a bite to eat – and knowing your dog is welcome too.

From puppuccinos to tasty treats and generous outdoor spaces, we’ve rounded up our favourite dog friendly cafés, restaurants and pubs that are guaranteed to have tails wagging.

 

The Treguth Inn, Holywell Bay

Holywell Road, Holywell Bay TR8 5PP

Best for: easy walk and delicious food

Situated just a short stroll down the hill from Trevornick Holiday Park lies this 13th century thatched gem of a pub. Set behind the dunes of Holywell Beach, it’s got everything you could ever want from a historic watering hole; a traditional whitewashed stone exterior, exposed beams across low slung ceilings, a pretty beer garden (for the warmer months or for those brave souls in the winter!) and a whole lot of Cornish village charm. Serving a range of classic drink options and the usual suspects you’d expect to see on a quaint country pub menu (think Sunday roasts, steak and ale pies, fish and chips, plus burgers, salads and sides), The Treguth ticks all the boxes when it comes to delicious food and a warm welcome, for both you and the hound! Very dog friendly in all areas of the pub and bonus, it’s just a hop-and-a-skip away!

The Smugglers Den Inn, Cubert

Trebellan Farm, Cubert TR8 5PY

Best for: countryside quiet, dinner and a picturesque pub

Another thatched local found a little further up the road from us is The Smugglers Den Inn: a 16th century pub settled in a picturesque hamlet just off of Cubert village and surrounded by rolling countryside. Featuring fantastic classic pub dishes on the menu (including gluten free, vegetarian and vegan dishes), top-quality real ales and a wide selection of wines from across the globe, not to mention roaring open fires, The Smugglers is a hard one to beat.

Top tip: when booking, tables can be reserved in the dog friendly bar area or on the al fresco terrace during the warmer months.

The Bowgie, West Pentire

West Pentire Road, West Pentire, TR8 5SE

Best for: Coast path lunch pit stop & sea views

Now here is a pub with a view! Found along the rugged headland of West Pentire just outside of Crantock Village, this airy eatery makes the very best of its incomparable position overlooking the expansive white sands of Crantock Beach. Head to The Bowgie for homemade comfort food and crisp pints of cold cider, stay for the panoramic coastal vistas stretching out towards Polly Joke, The Gannel and the dramatic coastline beyond. 

Fun fact: the pub was originally a farm building and derives its name ‘bowgie’ from the Cornish word for ‘cowshed’ – the owner used to grow potatoes in the field on the cliff edge to make the pub chips in the 1970s! 

Dogs are very welcome in the outside areas only so be sure to bring your winter wear if visiting in the cooler months! This is a great pit-stop if you’re walking the coast path from Holywell Bay to Crantock. All table reservations are highly recommended in advance.

C-Bay Bar & Bistro, Crantock

C-Bay, West Pentire TR8 5SE

Best for: Incredible views and homemade dog biscuits 

With Crantock Beach dog friendly all year round, C-Bay is the perfect post walk pit-stop. Head here for stunning views and frothy coffees served with the giant slabs of cake. An idyllic place to dine al fresco on sunny days, making the most of the stunning sea views.With homemade biscuit dog treats waiting on the bar, C-Bay is sure to be a place that keeps the whole pack happy. Open daily during the peak season for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Please check their website for opening times during the winter months.

The Cornishman & The Old Albion

Crantock Village Centre, TR8 5RB

Best for: proper pub food and beach walks

After a walk along the River Gannel (at low tide) or a run across the miles of beach at Crantock, return to the village pubs for a well deserved pint or two and a plate of delicious home-made pub grub. Located next to each other, choosing which pub to try first can be quite the dilemma. Both very dog friendly inside and out, a great spot to soak in local village life and tuck into pizzas, pies, burgers and very tasty fish and chips. If you’re looking for a traditional pub with a very warm welcome, we highly recommend dinner here especially after a lengthy beach walk.

 

The Stable, Newquay

Fistral Beach, Headland Road, Newquay TR7 1HY

Best for: Pizza and cider

Set above world-famous surfing mecca, Fistral Beach. Flaunting huge floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the swells crashing on the shore below, The Stable offers relaxed dining in an always buzzing ambience. Not only is Fistral Beach one of the dog friendliest beaches going (your hound is welcome year-round!), but The Stable is also incredibly dog friendly too, meaning you can make a day of it stomping the shoreline and sniffing out starfish before cosying up surfside for a freshly baked sourdough pizza – if you wait for sunset, you’ll be in for quite the show!

Our recommendation: opt for the cider tasting board and don’t miss the homemade Biscoff cheesecake! Reservations can be made in advance (recommended for larger groups) however The Stable are also very accommodating to walk-ins. 

Local’s tip: Park at South Fistral and walk across the beach to The Stable and then stroll back to your car via the path that runs across the top of the beach.
