Poldark Spotted!
Poldark is set to be gracing our screens once again later this spring! For those of you who don’t know anything about Poldark, where on earth have you been? Broadcast on the BBC, it’s a drama set in 18th-century Cornwall with Ross Poldark as the main character, played by the very handsome Aiden Turner (according to the ladies in our office anyway!). Passionate about turning around the fortunes of his late father’s estate in mining, the series includes many intense cliff top scenes and love triangle antics.
Two seasons have already aired with our Cornish coastline as the perfect backdrop. Since season three is looming we thought we’d highlight some of the stunning locations where Poldark has been filmed.
Holywell Bay –
The never ending golden sands of Holywell bay and the famous view of Gull rocks in the background featured multiple times in series two. Only a short walk from us here at Trevornick, you can see where they shot the scenes in person! Here’s a photo we took of them filming in September last year.
Park Head –
The rough seas and sloping cliffs, sums up Poldark in one photo. Scenes of horses galloping along this headland will be on our screens again very soon!
Porthcurno –
Porthcurno’s natural beauty of a sheltered soft white beach and bright blue seas, there was no better place to film Poldark’s Nampara Cove.
Kynance Cove –
This idyllic beach also doubles up as Nampara Cove just like Porthcurno.
Gunwalloe –
With a strong smuggling history, Gunwalloe went back in time when the cast visited to film some scenes there.
Botallack to Levant –
With Cornwall’s strong mining history, the main feature in Poldark, the stretch of cliffs between Botallack along to Levant are ideal to play the role of Ross’ Wheel Leisure.
St Agnes Head –
Just like the view from Botallack to Levant, St. Agnes head fitted in with the Cornish mining theme in the story.
Bodmin Moor –
Bodmin Moor was used a lot throughout filming, with vast rugged land, it is the perfect backdrop for the horseback riding scenes. Scenes outside Ross Poldark’s cottage are also filmed here!
Charlestown –
With its old-fashioned shipping harbour, Charlestown near St. Austell has been used many times. Mostly to represent their 18th century Truro.
