Cool dog walks around Cornwall
With the recent hot weather spells we’ve been experiencing it’s best to find sheltered walks to keep your dog cool and their paws happy when walking in Cornwall. Here are our top 5 shady walks:
St Mawgan Woods
Woodland surrounds the village of St Mawgan which is just a 10 minute drive from Newquay. Park up and walk along the public footpath down to Mawgan Porth Beach where the dog (and you) can cool off with a dip in the sea. Walk back to St Mawgan village and enjoy a drink in The Falcon Inn whilst you’re there.
Crantock to Penpol Creek
The Gannel is a tidal estuary that separates Newquay and the village of Crantock. There is a shady walk you can take from Crantock beach car park along the Gannel to Penpol Creek which is flanked by large trees and the perfect place to stop with your flask of tea.
National Trust Trelissick
Drive in the direction of Truro and find Trelissick Gardens in Feock. The National Trust property has beautiful gardens with lots of big trees to cool down under. Head down to the water’s edge where there is a beach and lots of places to relax. When you’re here walk down the hill to see the King Harry Ferry in operation too!
Ellenglaze
Leaving from Trevornick head down towards the Gull Rocks Bar & Coffee House and find a public footpath opposite. Follow along the cool route through the hamlet of Ellenglaze and up to the village of Cubert. This route does pass through farmland so be sure to have the dog lead with you! Walk back along the route and treat your pooch to a dog friendly ice cream in the pub where you began the walk.
Cardinham Woods
Forestry England have mapped out different walking routes around these woods and dogs dig it here. There are different levels of hikes and you might pass by an old mine or walk the highest route for views across Cornwall. We definitely recommend stopping in the Woods Cafe for a slice of cake and a cuppa.
Trevornick is a dog friendly holiday park and we can’t wait to meet your four-legged friends when you stay with us. Onsite explore the dog walking fields, grab a frozen doggie yoghurt to refresh from the shop and shower off at the Bark & Bathe after walks on the beach. Oh and don’t forget to pick up a tasty treat from Reception on arrival!
