Although the Montol Festival is a fairly recent addition to the Cornish festive calendar it is actually a revival and combination of other ancient Cornish midwinter celebrations. Lanterns, costume and masks play a big part in this striking festival culminating in night time processions through the town.

December 23rd sees the celebration of Tom Bawcock’s Eve, a local legend of Mousehole in memory of a heroic fisherman who saved the village from famine.
