Cornish folk know how to festival! Join in with traditions old and new and take home treasured memories of Cornwall in winter.

Newquay at Christmas

Three days of festive fun with markets, music, food and drink and a visit from Santa! Local children lead a lantern procession through the town, for the Light Switch On, carols around the tree, and fireworks.

Montol Festival

Penzance – 21 December 🚗 48 mins from Trevornick

Although the Montol Festival is a fairly recent addition to the Cornish festive calendar it is actually a revival and combination of other ancient Cornish midwinter celebrations. Lanterns, costume and masks play a big part in this striking festival culminating in night time processions through the town.

Mousehole Lights

17th Dec – 6th January 🚗 59 mins from Trevornick

A spectacular Christmas lights attraction over the picturesque Mousehole harbour with over 60 displays drawing crowds from near and far. December 23rd sees the celebration of Tom Bawcock’s Eve, a local legend of Mousehole in memory of a heroic fisherman who saved the village from famine. We recommend the beautiful story The Mousehole Cat, by Antonia Barber if you don’t already know it!

Cotehele

Every year at Christmas, the staff at this National Trust property create a spectacular 60 foot flower garland that hangs in The Great Hall. See Cotehele decorated in traditional Victorian style and enjoy performances from local choirs. Maybe you’ll even join the Wassail on 17th December to ward off evil spirits and ensure a bountiful harvest next year!
